Prepping my Gallery for an Exhibit

Feb 04

For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be an artist.  Back when I was a child I was unsure as to what type of artist that I wanted to be as I was fascinated by the many opportunities available to me.  I tried out sculpting, music, and weaving, but none of them spoke to me like painting did.  So, it should come as no surprise that painting is the career path that I have chose.  In fact, I am prepping my gallery for an exhibit this weekend.

I don’t know if you have ever showcased your art at a gallery, but the first word that comes to mind is stress.  It isn’t like I don’t have the pieces that I am going to be displaying on-hand or anything like that, but rather the thought of putting together a coherent masterpiece.  I have been known to try and set things up with an E-cig in one hand and a painting in the other.  I have switched to the electronic cigarettes because they don’t harm the paintings like a traditional cigarette would.  I spend most of my day trying to find the right place for each piece of the collection, and you would think that would be the end of it, but it isn’t.

I have started to make a habit of putting the exhibition together two nights before the show and sleeping on it.  This way I can wake up the following day and evaluate whether or not I think that I have everything in the right place.  Most of the time there needs to be slight adjustments, and by taking a break from the work, I have time to figure things out.

Even though displaying my art at a show can be stressful, I really love to see the faces of the people attending the shows when they see my work.  Watching the impact my art has on people makes every painting I create worthwhile.
