Wallpaper-An Alternative to Paint
Mar 26
Covering the walls of your home with wallpaper is an alternative method of wall covering and decoration to painting them. Compared to painting, using wallpaper is more economical in the long run, as wallpaper can last 10-15 years, a lot longer than paint. You most likely won’t have to change it as often as you’d need to repaint. Wallpaper are also available in many more patterns, designs and textures than paint (Including custom patterns and prints), so you can get your walls to look exactly the way you want them to. However wallpapering is harder to do and requires more preparation time. It also costs more to replace wallpaper than it does to repaint. Wallpaper removal used to be a pain in the past, but thanks to strippable and peelable wallpapers, it has become much easier. Strippable wallpaper can be stripped off the wall completely leaving nothing behind, while peelable wallpaper leave their backing layer (substrate) behind, which can be used to paste a new wallpaper upon.
Wallpaper can have many qualities such as colorfastness (Doesn’t fade when exposed to sunlight), abrasion resistance (Resistance to rubbing, scratching and scraping), stain resistance (stains can be removed without damaging or altering the wallpaper), scrubbable, washable etc. The attributes possessed by a particular wallpaper will be listed on the label or the sample book. You should choose a wallpaper with appropriate qualities, depending on the rooms that you intend to paper, and the the persons and creatures living in your home. For example, scrubbable wallpapers would be appropriate in rooms like kitchens and bathrooms and colorfast wallpaper would be best on walls receiving direct sunlight, while abrasion and stain resistant wallpapers might be useful if you have pets and kids in your home.
